6th Annual Leon Carr Classic Disc Golf Tournament Format -Beaver Island DG Course- -Sunday July 7th 2013-
This Annual disc golf tournament commemorates Leon Carr’s enthusiasm for the great sport of disc golf. His interest in disc golf fueled many people to try the challenging craft. Many friends enjoyed developing their skills for the game over a decade of recreational play. In his honor we assemble to have a competitive tournament that includes multiple skill levels comprised of local and regional players. The tournament’s rules & structure below detail how the tournament will be scored, how the tournament is set up, & what is to be considered Out of Bounds(OB).
The tournament will be comprised of 2 major fields. The prize pool will be universal for the whole tournament, but the teams will be designated as Advanced or Intermediate. These qualifications for the teams will assign where the players will be throwing from for the entire tournament. Advanced: Teams should register as Advanced if their average or projected score for the Beaver Island Disc Golf Course as a 2man team playing best disc should be a -4 or better when treating all of the holes for the course as a par 3. Advanced Teams’ males will be throwing from the Blue Tees for any holes that have Blue Tees, & White Tee pads when there are no Blue Tees. Whereas females will be throwing from the White Tee pads for all of the holes. Intermediate: Teams should register as Intermediate if their average or projected score for the Beaver Island Disc Golf Course as a 2man team playing best disc should be a -3 or worse when treating all holes for the course as a par 3. Intermediate Teams’ males will be throwing from the White Tee pads for all of the holes. Whereas females will be throwing from the Red Tees for any of the holes that have them, or will throw from the White Tee Pads for any of the holes that don’t have the Red Tees. These 2 classifications will keep the entire tournament as 1 field maintaining all of the teams & prize pool as universal. While creating a level playing field that should account for everyone’s skill level.
Scoring: This is a Best Disc tournament. Therefore both players drive on every hole & then take the best shot of the two drives to throw their next shots from. Every subsequent shot is taken from the former best shot of the two players with both players then throwing. All scores are to be kept for each team by the opposite team(s) that they are paired up with. That way no team will be keeping their own scores. All scores for every hole are to be recorded before moving on. Every hole for the tournament will be a par 3 to make record keeping as easy as possible. In the case of an Out of Bounds(OB) throw, if the team has both thrown OB they therefore have to take the penalty as a +1 stroke. The team will then have the option to throw from where the disc lays in OB or from the point at which it went out. All OB +1 strokes are to be added into the score when recording it and not left for a later point. As an example if a team was to have thrown a 2 on Hole 10 but had both of their drives go OB then their score would be recorded as a 3.
Out of Bounds: A disc is OB if more than half of the disc is OB. Meaning a disc can be touching OB or be on the OB line by a portion, but will be ruled OB only when more than half of the disc is OB. The holes that will have OBs will be (#1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, & 18) OB explanations below. Hole #1’s OBs=If the drive goes in the water, or if the drive goes into the woods that run along the edge of the hole by the park’s house. Hole #2’s OBs=If the disc goes into the water or the tall grass along the right edge of the entire hole. Hole #3’s OBs=If the disc goes into the tall grass to the right of the major wooden posts that run down the hill. Hole #5’s OBs=If the disc goes into the tall grass anywhere that runs along the right side of the hole by the water and reeds. Hole #6’s OB=If the disc goes onto the road along the left side of the entire hole, or if the disc goes into the tall grass/woods/water that runs along the right side of the entire hole. The decent size island of small trees and flowers towards the basket is also OB. Hole #7’s OBs=If the disc goes into the road or doesn’t make it around the right side of the pine like the arrow on it indicates. Also if the disc goes down the embankment along the entire right side of the hole by the water. Hole #9’s OBs=If the disc falls anywhere in the trees, water, on or over the road its OB. Though if the disc falls into the middle island of trees by the hole its fair if its not in the trees out of reach for the person who threw the shot while they’re standing on the ground reaching for it with no stick or using anything to stand on. Hole #10’s OBs=If the disc lands onto or over any road that runs along the right side and back side of the hole. Hole #11’s OBs=If the disc goes over the bike path at the back of the hole. Hole#12’s OBs=If the disc ends up on the right side of the bike path, or goes into the street or tall grass/trees/water that run along the back and left sides of the entire hole. Hole#13’s OBs=If the disc goes onto or lands over the road, or into the tall grass on the left side of the entire hole. This is the only hole where if both players throw OB they will have to take the +1 stroke & drive again from where they originally drove. All other holes with OBs give the option for the team to throw from where the disc lays in OB, or where it initially went OB. Hole#14’s OBs=If the disc goes onto or over the road on the right side or back side of the entire hole, or if the disc goes into the tall grass/water that runs along the entire left side of the hole. Hole#15’s OBs=If the disc goes onto or over the road either along the entire right side or back side of the hole. Hole#16’s OBs=If the disc goes onto the road on the left side or if the disc goes into the woods only along the right side of the hole-*but not for the trees that run along the back side of the hole. Only the woods to the right all the way until the basket are OB. Hole#17’s OBs=If the disc goes onto or over the road along the left side of the entire hole. Hole#18’s OBs=If the disc goes into the woods along the right side of the hole or in the back of the hole by the basket. *Yet the island of trees close to the basket will not be OB.
Payouts: Approximately half of the prize pool will be awarded to at least 3 of the teams. Depending upon how many teams play and how much money there is at the day of the tournament will end up deciding how many spots will pay and how much will be awarded.
